The British School of Excellence

A live course site under hosting strain, stabilised over three weeks without taking it offline, one or two changes at a time with proof before anything was called done.

The opening frame: the headline “A school’s website was getting in the way of selling courses.” above the live British School of Excellence home page.

The film could not play here. Everything it shows is written on this page.

  1. Etiquette and leadership training

A school’s website was getting in the way of selling courses.

    The live site: thebritishschoolofexcellence.com.

  2. The problem

    The admin kept freezing.

Phones showed only part of the course list.

Finished courses were hidden from sale.

    The privacy page led nowhere.

  3. William’s first try

William tried to fix it all in one night.

    Fixes verified: 2 of 7.

    So the method changed.

  4. How the work runs now

One or two changes at a time, proven on the live site.

A loop: pick one fix, make it, check it live, write it down.

  5. The result

    Courses back on sale: 11.

  6. William’s own mistake

William made some footer links too faint. The same checks caught it.

The footer links go from too faint to easy to read.

  7. LUXD delivery

20 days from first fix to handover.

11 finished courses back on sale.

The work did not require taking the site offline.

The case in three points

The problem

The admin kept freezing, phones showed only part of the course list, and eleven finished course pages were not on sale.

What William changed

After a first all-at-once attempt failed, William fixed the site one or two changes at a time, proving each one on the live site before calling it done.

Delivery

Over three weeks: one menu on every device, eleven courses back on sale and the legal page working. The work did not require taking the site offline.

In their words

“He took on a complicated and poorly structured website, worked patiently through a significant number of technical and functional issues, and helped turn it into something that we can finally use, manage and develop with confidence.”

Leanne Miltun, Director of Business Development & International Relations, The British School of ExcellenceWritten testimonial, September 2026

The problem, and the fix

The state William inherited

  • The admin froze and timed out. Elementor kept forcing Safe Mode. Pages took two to six seconds and a public 503 recurred.
  • Four navigation widgets stacked in the header, so the mobile menu showed a partial course list.
  • The privacy policy address redirected to itself in a loop, so every visit to it went nowhere. The page had never existed at that address.
  • Eleven finished course pages sat unpublished. One was scheduled to appear on the morning its own course began, invisible for its whole selling window.
  • Two redirect plugins running at once, each holding half the picture. No backup newer than 22 August.
  • William’s own first attempt, 23 to 24 August: everything in one sitting, two verified fixes out of seven, and a 4am note that the method had to change.

The state at handover

  • One primary navigation, 37 items, the same structure on desktop and mobile. Interior pages carry the same menu.
  • Every privacy policy address resolves, including the uppercase and legacy ones. The looping rule disabled and kept for audit, not deleted.
  • Eleven course pages published and back inside their selling window. The Courses menu split into two columns on desktop with no overflow.
  • Seven homepage buttons repointed to real course pages, every original address recorded before the change. Two Book Now buttons deliberately left alone because they were a working revenue path.
  • 58 addresses swept while logged out. The seven that fail sit in a hidden widget no visitor can reach. Team pages 25 of 25 cards rendering.
  • A contrast bug William caused, footer links at 1.22:1 for about a week, found by the loop, owned in the log and fixed to 14.51:1. A wrong early audit corrected in the next log rather than quietly replaced.

What the client received

  • Navigation rebuilt and verified on desktop and mobile, 37 items
  • Eleven finished course pages published and back in the sales window
  • The redirect loop on the legal page disabled and kept on file, not deleted
  • Seven homepage buttons repointed to real course pages, every original address recorded first
  • A contrast bug William introduced, then found, owned and fixed
  • A working method for fragile live sites: one or two changes per step, proof on the live page before it is called done, and a log every session
  • A plain-English editing guide for the school’s own team, and a written list of what is still open and why

Client context and scope

Client context

Etiquette and leadership training

A school selling courses while its own admin was timing out. The first overnight attempt to fix everything in one push failed: two fixes out of seven, and the admin stopped responding. The method was rebuilt as a loop: scope one action, make it, prove it on the live site, log it. Three weeks later the navigation, the legal page, the missing courses and the links were fixed, and two of William’s own mistakes were caught by the same loop and owned in writing.
